Hey Everyone!
Well here is just a quick post between classes to see if I got this working right. Just a little info about myself I am a Sr at MMA in Marine Bio, and starting this year a Minor in SVO. I've been an RA in Curtis Hall Dorms (mind you the ONLY dorm on this whole campus) for almost 3 years now. Besides all of that I also work 2 jobs on campus, am the secretary of ABC (activities and Bands committee), one of the Capt of the Women's Sailing team (which we just recently had our 1st regatta!!) and a few other random things. So yes as one can assume, I tend to be a bit busy!
This blog is mainly to not only keep my family up to date on my life, but to let potential students of MMA (and their families) know what life is truly like here. For anyone looking into the campus, I'm sure you have noticed that our boy to girl ratio isn’t quite up to what most colleges have. Quite frankly we look like a boy’s school that just started taking in girls. Which in the realm of college years that is the case. MMA has been taking in girls for over 20 yrs, I believe, however when you think about the age of the college, that is nothing (the college was founded in 1941) Last I heard the ratio was more towards 6:1. As in 6 boys to every 1 girl. Now odds like that can sound a little daunting. Especially if you are parents getting ready to send your baby girl off to school here, chances are what went running through my moms head is running through yours "OH my heavens what am I thinking agreeing to this??" Some advice for parents, the thought of sending your daughters to mostly male school does get easier to deal with.
For the last 2 years I've been the RA of the "Vault" which is 12 rooms on the 1st floor where the female Non-reg girls are typically housed. It's called the Vault because the it’s in one of the lowest levels of the building (where most vaults are typically kept) and when the school started accepting females at 1st they were all housed down there with alarms placed on the fire doors, in order to keep the girls "safe". Well since then the females of MMA have adapted their way into college life here and the alarms have been removed. This year I finally moved out of the Vault and am now an RA on the second floor which is typically the "non reg" floor. At the end of last Spring it was looking as though I'd have an ALL male section minus my quad mate (the girl I share a bathroom with) However the class of 2010, had a HUGE increase of Females (the class of 2010 DOUBLED the number of females living in the dorms) so I now have a section which is roughly a little more then 2/3rds Male. A little different from what I've gotten use to.
Alright, well I've got to get running to class, I'll be sure to update more, and hopefully get some pictures up once I get the hang of this. However, if you have any questions feel free to email me and ask! Till next time...
Well, I have been reading your blog posts daily and the reason I come on your blog frequently is its compelling content… Regards…
